Frequently asked questions
What
is your mission regarding the project in India?
The project in India
is started to provide an opportunity to
underprivileged women to start and manage their own
home-based businesses. We believe that reaching out
to one village at a time, and one needy woman at a
time in that village, will have a positive effect on
the community as a whole. The women bear the burden
of children and family in most cases.
Why
did you start the work in South India?
We come from South India and we know the
geographical area. The villages we reach out are
those where people are poor and need some
encouragement and support. Small home-based business
gives the woman hope and self-esteem. We know that
small investment has great dividends.
How
do you select the women to receive help?
This is the difficult task.
This project is managed by South Indian Charities, a
registered non-profit organization. They volunteer
to help us in this project. They get help from local
churches in respective villages. The pastors and
volunteers screen the women regarding their family
situations, financial needs, their willingness and
ability to start and manage the business they choose
from the different businesses we support at this
time. South Indian Charities makes the final
screening and selection.
What
are the different businesses you support and what is
the dollar value for each?
At present, we
support the following home-based businesses:
Embroidery and garment making
Raising goat for milk and profit
Palm leaf business: making thatches, baskets and
brooms
Tea and coffee shop
Vegetable and fruits shop
Each business costs from $35 to $80
depending on the nature of the business
Do
you work with the local government?
We work as a charitable organization. We do not
receive any help or partner with the government. We
focus on the communities who need help. We partner
with them so that they can help themselves.

your organization registered?
